Knysna Oyster Festival

 Oyster Festival Cycling Results

The full official results of the Knysna Oyster Festival’s MTB cycling event will only be available a bit later today….hey, guys, this is Knysna – part of the charm of the place is it’s, um, rustic pace!?

We will post them on our blog as soon as they’re officially available – as well as the results of Sunday’s Road Race.

Preliminarily, this is what we CAN tell you:

Despite his recent collarbone break, the indomitable Kevin Evans won the main  MTB event after being in the lead much of the way. Wadda guy!  By the way, his dad Leon (also known as Dr Evil…) was responsible for much of the course design.

Well done, Kevin!  Even though he’s triumphed in many other races, this was only his second win in his home event. He’s come in second more often than he’d like to remember.

It was a really cold day, with freezing rain off and on, so it was a real test of endurance skills.

MTN’s Adrian Nivonshuti was second with Darren Lill 3rd.

The Ladies race winner was Eszter Erdelyi, a Hungarian lass, and the very impressive young Candice Neethling was hot on her heels.  Ishen Stopforth, a doctor in George, was 3rd.

On Sunday, the weather was a lot kinder – with blue skies and a chilly wind.

MTN’s Aaron Brown took the main Mens Road Race event, showing that he has fully recovered from the knee surgery which stopped him from defending his Argus title.

Tyler Day was second, and Richard Baxter 3rd.

Brave Robyn de Groot won the main Ladies event, and her well-known teammate Anriette Schoeman, followed her home. Even though she was cycling with a broken elbow and wrist, Lynette Burger was 3rd.

An Oyster Festival event for those not addicted to adrenalin…

Tomorrow (Tuesday) the Salomon Featherbed Trail Runs, hosted by Christine Collins, take place. This is an Oyster Festival cult event, and the runs go through gorgeous milkwood forest and coastal fynbos.

There are three runs – morning, afternoon and evening.  Included is a ferry trip to the Western Head, and a meal after the finish at the Cruise Café.

For more details call Christine on 083 558 9579, or go to: http://www.magneticsouth.net/events/salomon-featherbed-trail-run/

SA Navy enters The Heads

And then, don’t forget: for the early birds among you, the SA Navy will be bringing one of their big grey ships through the treacherous Knysna Heads EARLY tomorrow morning – like, 7am.  At this stage, it looks like an all-clear because the weather will probably be co-operating.

But if the weather is angry and stormy, stay in bed….the boys in white will only be coming in when they feel it’s safe.

 Title: Knysna family holiday accommodation

If you’re thinking about coming to Knysna during the school holidays over the next while – do yourselves a favour and consider holiday accommodation for your family on a houseboat!

It’s really a great way to be in Knysna – on your own self-drive houseboat. The craft are cosy, comfortable, and fully-equipped. The beds, especially, are REALLY comfortable.

Call us on 044 386 0007 for details.

Now: a laugh!

During History lesson, the teacher briefly went through the Kings and Queens who rule countries. “But” the teacher – a very religious person – continued, “There is of course a higher power. Can anybody tell me what it is?’
One child sang out:  ‘Aces!’

And on that note, you all have yourselves a great week!
