Knysna Oyster Festival Events

Events of the Younger Generation

Let it not be  said that we don’t think of the jongspan here in Knysna!

Tomorrow (Friday) there are a number of really good Oyster Festival things younger generation to get involved in.

At the BMW LoveLife Youth Centre there is a discussion forum focusing on the experience of youth day and the aimis to develop intellectual thinking. It gets underway at 16h00.

Then for those from 3 to 12 there’s a fun cooking class at Loerie Park, starting at 10h30.

Also at Loerie Park tomorrow morning at 10h30 am there’s an arts and crafts the 6 to 12 age group.

AND – that old favourite, face painting will be done also at Loerie Park from 13h30 onwards.

All shook up!

Well things are certainly shaking up all around the worl aren’t they? Quite literally!

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre yesterday issued a tsunami warning after an undersea earthquake of 7.6 near Tonga and New Zealand. A tsunami was detected but fortunately it wasn’t as hight as anticipated.

However New Zealand’s Civil Defence and Emergency ministry is keeping a marine threat warning in place today. (Thursday)

This comes after another two quakes of less than 7.0 were recorded near Japan this week, which fortunately caused a few casualties.

Meanwhile one of Iceland’s most powerful volcanoes looks set to blow it’s top which means another (even bigger) ash cloud over Europe.

The Hekla – called “Gateway to Hell” by locals  is experiencing major “magma movement” and it’s ready to blow.

On the financial front Portugal’s standing has been downgraded to “junk bond status” and the “rescue” of Greece is stuttering slowly onwards. The euro is looking shaky. Boffs were seriously raisingthe possibility that the USA might soon have it’s credit rating radically downgraded too.

In the prevailing climate of crisis and disorder it was heartening to see that a squirrel caused a sensation on the Internet this week – by cleverly dodging a very fast-moving Lamborgini. It did lose it’s tail which shows you how close it came to disaster!

But the point is it escaped – because it ran. There is a lesson of bravery and positivve thinking and effort in there for all of us…

I’m not scared of you!

While we’re on the subject of personal bravery here’s a chuckle. Isn’t the kid great?

Now a laugh! With all the amazing cold all around the country, we thought these snipplets might make you feel better….

It was so cold – we had to stop using metal cutlery to eat. Some folk got their knives and forks stuck to their tongues!

It was so cold – hitchhikers were holding up pictures of thumbs.

It was so cold – when you dialed 911 you got a recorded message asking you to phone back in the spring.

It was so cold – poultry were rushing into Kentucky Fried Chicken begging to use the pressure cooker!

And on that note you have a good weeked!
