Fishing for Cob in Knysna
This week we’ll tell you about fishing for Cob, many of which are caught in Knysna. In Winter good catches are still possible, depending on conditions.
Cob don’t fight like Steenbras, but it is still a very satisfying catch. The colours on the head are amazing, and the scales are gorgeous – like big round coins.
Look for pea-soupy water for good fishing, caused by the Knysna seabed being disturbed by inshore currents. This usually happens after two or three days of south-easterly winds. Cob do well in these conditions because of their strong gills. Their sense of smell is acute too, and they have a lateral line which can pick up the faintest vibrations of bait.
Do your fishing for cob in Knysna from a sandy beach at night, and wait for a fairly calm sea without undercurrents. Look out for gullies, where you will often find them next to the gully above sandbanks in shallow water.
Octopus, chokka, and mackerel make good bait. The hour before and after high tide is best. The best time is between sunset and ten at night, and from 4am until sunrise.
Family holidays Knysna South Africa
Enjoy the rest of the school holidays in South Africa, everyone…you have another few days to make the most of it.
In Knysna, South Africa, we’ve seen many a family on holiday over the last while – attracted to our town by the annual Oyster Festival, which officially closed at the weekend.
However, many of the families are still here – as the weather is really glorious, and looks set to stay that way for the rest of the week. Last week’s rainy weather was quite good for business in Knysna, because when it rains, local lore has it, visitors either go shopping or patronize restaurants.
We trust Knysna’s eateries did well during the Oyster Festival – certainly there was quite a good turn-out of families on holiday!

(I know its a little soon, but maybe the moms will appreciate it!)
Johnny goes back to school after the holidays, and two days later his teacher phones his mom to say that Johnny is being badly-behaved. Johnny’s mom loses it, and growls back at the teacher: ‘So? He’s been with me for three weeks and I didn’t phone YOU to complain about it!’
And on that note, you all have yourselves a great week!
