Nostalgia Bookcovers

Nostalgic Bookcovers seem to be an ongoing hit with a number of different groups of people – and I do understand why! If well done, meaning with lots of attention to detail, they have something precious and ‘whole’ about them… and if the content of the book itself is well-written, then the combination of valuable content and an exquisite book cover is a unique gift idea everybody simply loves, young and old…  even men. Ohhh… which gives me another idea… later!

Loving beautiful books myself and having crafted and illustrated a number of them in the ‘real’ world, I thought I’d venture into this area and design some Nostalgia Bookcovers the digital way – here’s my first ever example of its kind.

Nostalgia Bookcovers

To start off my Nostalgia Bookcovers, I was inspired by a beautifully crafted bookcover by a “Guttenberg”-something project… somewhere on the Internet; I don’t find it anymore. It had an old, handmade illustration on it featuring a little girl – a real nostalgic retro look.

In my imagination I saw my own hand-made illustrations – many of which I kept to this day – featuring on the covers… and one day they will, however, it seems my new computer and sophisticated programs don’t want to communicate with my older scanner anymore – they simply don’t click anymore . So this has to wait.

Meanwhile, I work with Digital Photographs from my meanwhile famous “Secret Garden”.

Everything on this book cover and those that will follow in future posts is originally crafted; after all these years with a ‘mouse’ it was quite an experience to go back and draw by hand using my little Bamboo tablet from WACOM… as I am still in camping-mode after heavy downpours destroyed part of my studio.

Color Trend 2012

So what’s the Color Trend 2012?

Clearly, neutral colors are out; we stay with the reds, the pinks and greens and especially bright colors with “Tangerine Tango” leading the hot palette… with a tan-tan musical note to it! Absolutely perfect for South Africa where a beautiful summer had us dance into the new year!

Seems they made a round in my garden… Web Design with Passion is fully in the trend! Now here’s for a tango!

Trend color two is “solar power” – a yellow that’s again a key color, this time with a maizy hue, totally within the global trend of a ‘green economy’ and definitely part of the above photo… You may even find a soft margarita green.

Color Trend 2012

Besides the Color Trend 2012 the emphasis is on being ‘bold’ and grabbing the viewers attention – which at the end of the day is the sense of every graphic, video, ad or website design! No wonder that the fonts should have depth in one way or another, meaning shadows, 3D effects, transparencies, gradients – just make it special!

Best is to extend this attitude across the background and add graphics, high quality large pictures, animations, videos, media… grab your visitors… and yes: retro and vintage are celebrating their comeback and if that’s what you like: integrate it and add your personal touch!

Jordan Spizike fans, here is a detailed look at the “Bordeaux” colorway set to drop February 2012. This release sees a mishmash of colors – almost like what the actual shoes themselves are with their Frankenstein-like nature – in yellow, red, sky blue and a elephant print. Word has it that these are the last of the Spizike releases, so this could be your last chance to cop a pair.

Global have snapped up a few good looks for the spring season, this photoshoot inroduces a look of both retro casualness and simplicity. The photoshoot shows what will be hot in the next few months, and shows a way that the look can be dropped. As Global are known for introducing new and innovative styles to the streets of London, it may be a good idea to take note and be one step ahead of your mates to always be the one with the meanest swagga. Most of the clothes worn in the photoshoot are available at Global either on our online shop or in-store, so have a look at our new and unique styles and tell us what you think…..

Global enjoyed a very productive day at the G-shock East urban sale, the day was full of vibrant colours from both staff and the passing customers which is obvious as the event was held in brick lane the area of new and innovative style and fashion. The day had a very upbeat feel to it and had a resemblance of a carnival with the big crowd and hypnotising smells from the food stalls (which had me at them countless times) , which opened up a new experience to retail life for me, there was also a live DJ in the shop which kept the party mood flowing and the retro dress style from all the staff had a great impact as the emoitions from everyone were high and extremely lively. On the whole the day was a very big success and the Global team have learnt alot, we would like to thank everyone at G-shock for the event and everyone who supported us.
