On Saturday 01 October 2011, Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011 was crowned during a prestigious Gala Event held at the Pinnacle Point Hotel and Beach Resort in Mossel Bay.

It was an evening that will keep the town of Mossel Bay talking for a while. Guests to this Gala Event were entertained by well-known South African artist, Nicholis Louw, who did a Elvis tribute and an excellent MC , Eloise Cupido, a Pasella Presenter.

The Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011 title was not the only title up for grabs. Zandrie Blom walked away with the title of Miss Photogenic, Tracey Anne Buckley with Miss Personality, as well as Miss Charity (which was awarded to the finalist who sold the most tickets to the Gala Event).

After seeing the 12 finalists, all equally deserving to carry the title of Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011, in various outfits ranging from swim wear, formal evening wear, as well as 20’s style designer wear, the top 5 finalists were announced; Donique Leonard, Zonke Frans, Chanieel du Plessis, Tracey Anne Buckley and Vujiseka Koppies.

Only one finalist could however walk away with the title of Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011, and the winner was Zonke Frans. Zonke is a 23 year old from Knysna. She impressed not only the judges, but also guests at the gala event with her answer to the question; what is her purpose in life. Her answer was simple yet striking, to be successful in everything she sets her mind to.
Chanieel du Plessis, a 21 year old from Mossel Bay was crowned 1st princess and Tracey Anne Buckley, a 23 year old from Mossel Bay was crowned 2nd princess.

The event is also a platform for local designers to compete for the title of Designer of the Year title at the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo 2011. The six designers from the Southern Cape region designed two outfits each to dress the 12 finalists for the grand finale of the pageant and the winner of the title was Jeanine Barnard. She designed the dress worn by Jody Calitz, as well as the dress worn by last year’s winner Marizanne Visser at the Gala evening. She loves playing with colour and designs inspired by nature.

The Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo is a well known community driven beauty pageant in the Garden Route and is in aid of regional shelters for battered and abused  woman.

This year’s finalists were announced last night at the Garden Route Casino Hotel in Mossel Bay. The 12 finalists all equally deserving to carry he title of Miss Garden Route 2011.

The Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011 will be crowned during a prestige gala event on 1 October 2011 at the world renowned Pinnacle Point Golf and Beach Estate.

Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011 Beauty with a Purpose

The Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011 beauty pageant  in aid of regional shelter for battered and abuse women, was officially launched at the beginning of June by last year’s winner a Georgian beauty, Marizaan Visser (now a committed LLB(Law) student at Stellenbosch University).

During the past 7 years the Miss Garden route and Klein Karoo presented by the Garden Route Casino in collaboration with Die Burger and The ISP Group has grown into a community driven event, combating women and child abuse within the Southern Cape.

Shelters for Abused Women and Children in the South Cape Benefit from Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011 Beauty Pageant

The “Heart” of the Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2011 beauty pageant  is the four shelters for abused women and children in the South Cape that benefit from the funds generated by this pageant.
The “Body” of the pageant is the public who support this project.  Apart from money raised by ticket sales for the gale evening, donations are also very welcome.

Louise Muller crowned “Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2009″

“Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2009″ beauty pageant, Miss Louise Muller (18) from Mossel Bay was crowned “Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo 2009″ at last night’s prestigious event at the Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay, South Africa. It must have been young Louise’s outgoing personality that charmed the Jury to choose her as the “Face of the Garden Route for 2009” as well as the Ambassador for Tourism of the Garden Route and Klein Karoo.

It was last year’s winner,  Noluthando Mkhobeni,  who crowned the winners.

The second runner up was Miss Nathalie Graaff (23) from Mossel Bay and the first princess  Miss Jeandre de Villiers (19) from Oudtshoorn.

The glamours Gala took place at Pinacle point, hosted by Garden Route Casino.

YCADEMY Seminar participant from George, Hanno Coetzee (Lalakoi) , was at the event and gave some enthusiastic feedback:

“I’ve been to several of these Gardenroute pageants – this was the best… well organized… the girls fantastic… and so many images! I am sorting out images since 6 am this morning… my eyes are sore as I had too much to look at! I posted a number of posts… and the the winner was Louise Muller!

What I liked is that people started recognizing “Lalakoi” and “Lalakoi Publishing”. I like to sit at my PC while people enjoy themselves… but they need to know I am here.”
Q: Who organized this event?

Lalakoi:

It was the Garden Route Casino organizing it… it’s from the Garden Route and Klein Karroo (it’s not a province, it’s a rigid type of semi-desert area, but people are living there and farming there… it’s a very nice areea to stay. Like the Garden Route is an area… each type of vegetation has another name.

Q: Was there a local jury? A professional jury?

Lalakoi:

They were professional people; the management of the casino, the previous Miss SA’s… people who know what they are doing. The sorting out started 2-3 weeks ago… the theme of the event was to support battered children and women (Abuse). They also have shelters where the women and kids are looked after. One of each shelter lady got a make-over and the best make-over won a price. They all got presents and gifts… and all the money of the event is going towards these shelters.

Q: What does the winner win?

Lalakoi:

The total price of the event was R 200.000,–; the winner won in total about R75.000,– (R17,000 in cash) . The rest was going to the other girls. The winner will also be entered into the Miss South Africa Competition.  The winner from last year will also enter the Miss South Africa Competition…

Besides… we had fantastic rains at last… after going through the worst droughts since 123 years …

Last night  Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo 2009 was crowned in Mossel Bay at the Garden Route Casino. To choose  a winner from the 12 finalists must have been a difficult task for the judges.

Tonight -  Saturday 26 September, 2009, Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo will be crowned. This event is one of the social highlights in the Garden Route. After a few months of planing and organising, 12 finalists were chosen to compete for this prestegious title.

The Face of the Garden Route and Little Karoo

The winner of Miss Garden Route  title will not only walks away with amazing prizes, but will also be known as “The Face of the Garden Route and Little Karoo” and will be granted an interview in the Miss South Africa Pageant.

Previous winners like Meche Alexander, has gone on to be a semi-finalist in the Miss South Africa Pageant – Meche was also one of the top ten contestants in Model Millions that was televised on SABC.

Funds generated by Miss Garden Route and Klen Karoo donated to combat child and women abuse

Women abuse has become a social dilemma of note within the Southern Cape, which emphasizes the importance of projects such as the Miss Garden Route & Little Karoo beauty pageant.  The Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo project sets out to generate much needed funds to be donated to institutions combating women abuse.

In the past, institutions such as Creative Effective Families (Mossel Bay), Phambili (George) and Malibongwe (Oudtshoorn) has benefited from such donations, supporting day-to-day operations and much needed maintenance projects.  Various residents of shelters for battered and abused women have also enjoyed beauty sessions, rekindling the spiritual joy often lost in violent relationships.

Dieter Voigt ex Mr. South Africa will act as mentor for abused children

The 2009 edition of Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo will attempt to not only support victims of women abuse, but also to reach out to the silent victims; children originating from abusive households. Dieter Voigt (ex Mr. South Africa and Pasella presenter) will attempt to act as mentor to these children, providing them with various opportunities to ensure a brighter future, free from violence and neglect.

The 7 en-suite guest house rooms are in the original Farmhouse on Berluda near Oudtshoorn and each offers air-conditioning and coffee/tea/sherry tray. Modern bathrooms are all equipped with Jacuzzi bath, double basins and separate shower and toilet. The rooms are surrounded by apricot orchards amidst lush gardens with swimming pool. Tours on a Working Ostrich Farm in Oudtshoorn

Piet Schoeman runs one of the largest working ostrich farms in the Oudtshoorn area, and was elected the Western Cape’s “Young Farmer of the year 2006”. His wife Laura gives tours in English, Afrikaans, German and Dutch.
