Colchester Zoo Trip

Having been on a trip to Colchester Zoo the other week we came back with some nice shots of the animals that we saw, mainly the larger zoo animals. Many of the smaller animals that have need of specific atmospheric conditions are behind glass which makes it difficult to take a good picture without reflections.

It was a warm day in September, with sunshine in the morning but a little overcast in the afternoon.  Not too bad a day to take out the Nikon to take a few shots. Trying to take pictures of animals is not so easy, you just never know when they will move. Unless you are able to spend time assessing your subject only then maybe you get that lucky shot, otherwise like on this trip to Colchester Zoo with the family I was only able to come back with some nice ‘snapshots’.

Tropical Wings Zoo Animals

Tropical Wings Zoo in Essex has a wide variety of animals to watch and feed. Youngsters like my grandson just love to feed and feel the animals.

Arriving a little late in the day we were unable to see all the animals, but we still managed to see quite a few like  the tortoises, goats, meerkats, lemurs, rabbits, wallabies and last but not least the birds of prey display.

We will certainly be paying another visit to the Tropical Wings Zoo, perhaps in term time when there may be less crowds. The Zoo was certainly a major attraction in this part of Essex, the whole place heaving with children and adults. A real fun place for all the family.

Tropical Wings Butterflies 

We also visited The Butterfly Houseon the day, where you can walk  among the free flying Tropical Butterflies and watch and feed the koi carp in the large pool.

Tendring Show 2010 on Youtube

The day of the Tendring Show was hot with a cloudless blue sky. Staying cool for both animals and the public was a problem. The show was held in a field at Lawford Park which meant lots of dust being kicked up by animals and humans and cars.  Not the most ideal conditions to take pictures, however some of the shots have been compiled into a video which can now be viewed on youtube.
