The Importance of High Quality Content
The Importance of High Quality Content on Websites and Blogs is still underestimated – with the result that the web is swamped with mediocre pseudo-information noone is actually interested in, nobody looks at and nobody bothers about – fast come, fast go – absolute cyber-waste… and, worst of all, it may even make its way to the top of Google as search engine spyders do not distinguish between good or bad text and images, they follow their own rules and algorhythm…
In an ideal virtual world, wouldn’t you want to find high quality articles, pictures and media on Google Top 10 – the place where you would go to look up anything of interest, wanting to find what you are looking for in a snap and having the pleasure of looking at value in terms of what you see, read and open yourself up to? It obviously depends on the topic you are researching – it may be informative, entertaining, humorous, sexy or educational – but giving it your precious time wouldn’t you appreciate to be served with something of value, something that breathes quality, where you feel something authentic, a soul behind, an expertise, a human talking to a human?
After all, don’t we all share the same humanity?
Ubuntu
In South Africa we honor the classical concept of “Ubuntu”. Ubuntu means that “… a person is a person through other human beings”. One cannot exist without the other; we are interconnected. Bishop Desmond Tutu explained it beautifully in his writings in 2008 (excerpt):
“One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu – the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality – Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity.
We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.”
The Importance of High Quality Content
“When you do well it spreads out…; it is for the whole of humanity” – this is why I write about the Importance of High Quality Content especially with regard to the Internet and its exceptional longevity.
Whatever you put out on the Internet mirrors you, reflects the person you are, the real you, your integrity – and it will be there for a long time, your grand-children will see it, read it, be uplifted, proud or… embarrassed or worse. Whatever content you publish on your website builds or breaks your reputation, distinguishes you from others, shows who you are, builds your authority and trustworthyness in certain fields of expertise, makes people follow you, see something in you they can relate to, give their time to and trust.
It doesn’t matter what the topic is; that’s completely irrelevant. People who like Mozart may not go for Jazz… but what counts is that the content talks, is well written and presented in a captivating way for the relevant audience – in short, it must be professional in the good old sense, including its editing and publishing.
With traditional offline publishing quality finding its way slowly but surely into a technologically dramatically evolving web, I dare to say that sometime in the not too far future it will be the high quality content that will stand out head and shoulders above the rest – and we will know where to find it. Maybe my hope and admiration for those who do such exquisite work and deserve to be found fast and first on top Google rankings is giving my imagination wings?
Be it as may… let me say this: even though a readership may be minute – especially in the beginning, when you are building your name, authority and reputation – don’t let this deter you, be strong, be sophisticated, give it your best… and you will eventually find that it’s also the quality in readers that counts: you only need a few to carry you to the next level in your development: the right ones for you, those who resonate with your concepts, thoughts and writings.
High Quality Content Sells
And yes – as we have seen so often: a good topic combined with good content in form of text and images well presented finds not only its readership but also its buyers. We just saw it with Delia O’Riordan and her brand-new blog HERE with WordPress based Semiomantics Web Design standing for Excellence in Online Publishing.
Conclusion: High Quality Content Sells!
