Knysna cycling accommodation

Cannondale Garden Route 300

Knysna is certainly SA’s premier cycling town – a new major cycling event, the Inaugural Cannondale Garden Route 300 comes up later this month: on the 25th, 26th and 27th of February. We’d like to suggest you cyclists do yourselves a favour and book accommodation on a self-drive Lightleys Holiday houseboat while you’re here. The gorgeous Knysna lagoon is just the best place to relax and soothe sore muscles after a tough day’s cycling. The Cannondale Garden Route 300 promises to be three adrenaline-filled days. According to organisers Louise Wilson Hemmes and Patric Mosterd, the event will prove to become one of the ultimate rides in South Africa. “The route incorporates all of the best rides in and around the town and stretches over 300 kilometres in three days,” explained Mosterd. Wilson said this extraordinary race was tailor-made for like-minded mountain bike fanatics. Race entry fees include all lunches and dinners – each with a Knysna twist. Skip Jack jumping on the Kowie River in Port Alfred

Exciting news on the fishing scene is that the Skipjack (also known as Ladyfish, Seven Pounders or Springers) are jumping in the Kowie River at Port Alfred. Our man on the spot, David Drennan, told us that the popular gamefish are being attracted to swimming prawns, which have multiplied recently in the Kowie. Dave says the Skipjack is really quite a fish, known for its jumping. Just use line which is strong enough, advises Dave – he lost five over the last few days…. In Knysna, Myburgh from Breezers says the Kabeljou are biting well between the red and white bridges , on live mullet and chokka. In the area where our houseboats spend the night near Belvidere Elf (Shad) are plentiful, there are Steenbras at bouy 13, and Garrick at the train bridge. So, come on, gentlemen, there’s fishing to be done…!

Lightleys Holiday Houseboats review

We had such a heart-warming compliment early this week, from a young couple who always went to Thailand for their holiday. Now they have a baby, and decided that it wouldn’t be great to take baby so far. So they came to Knysna, and spent some time on a Lightleys Houseboat on the lagoon instead. Apparently they loved it….”just as relaxed as Thailand” was their comment. They ordered picnic hampers, and the freshness and deliciousness of the contents also made them think of Thailand….

Valentine’s Day special Knysna

St Valentine’s Day is coming up, and what better way is there to spend some quality time with your sweetheart than out on the water alone together? We’ll roll out the red carpet for the two of you…. check out our special packages at www.houseboats.co.za There is also a VERY special treat in store at Lightleys Port Alfred, which is offering the “Ultimate Romantic Experience for two”. That’s NOT an exaggeration, either! check out our special packages at www.houseboats.co.za and a chuckle: Two blondes are on opposite sides of a lake. One blonde yells to the other, “How do you get to the other side?” “You are on the other side,” yells the other blonde. Have a great week! Owen Groenenstein and the Lightleys Crew
