How to take a screenshot

Many people keep asking: “How do I take a Screenshot?”

How to take a screenshot

Taking a screenshot is actually very simple. Just look at the screen in front of you – this is what you will be ‘screenshooting’ as an example now. In just a split second… pronto pronto!

On your keyboard, look for the key “Print Screen”. In my case, it’s top right, to the right of F12 – saying: Prt Scr.

All you do is click on this key. You now have the copy of what’s on your screen on your mousetip.

Open Photoshop, click on NEW under FILE top left. It opens a new screen and asks for a name that you just quickly type in, like ‘test’ for now.

Then click on EDIT at the top left and, on the dropdown menu, select PASTE – and voila! you have your screenshot all ready to go.

Website Publishing

Pictures and images are crucial for today’s Website Publishing as people prefer to look at an attractive and evocative picture to reading. And just to be clear on this: the above (untouched)  digital photo was taken yesterday morning, it’s not a screenshot! It was a glorious, sunny summer day here in South Africa and I could not resist an invigorating and exhilerating photo hunting session out in Nature, especially as our Internet connections went down… just as they are doing right now, again.

Back to our topic: What do we need screenshots for?

For instance, you may want to publish a small version of one of your websites in an article on your blog for demonstrative reasons. Or you have an image gallery that features your work, like on Semiomantics Evolution.

What we don’t do is steal copyrighted work from others and publish it… even worse, doing so under our name – that’s a definite ‘no!’; it will never be as good as the original anyway.

How to crop a picture in Photoshop

As now you have your screenshot, you want to know how to crop a picture in Photoshop – right?

I will leave that for the next article! Hang in there… it will be published soon.
