WordPress Media by Semiomantics
This month’s Ycademy Online Seminar will focus on the visual display of media on Semiomantics XO. The Seminar is split into two parts:
1. SlideDeck Pro for Semiomantics XO
and
2. Professional Slide-shows with Adobe Encore CS5
SlideDeck Pro for Semiomantics XO
SlideDeck Pro is a Slider script which integrates with WordPress. A free lite version is available offering great display features; the Pro version however, with its additional features is a perfect solution for any webmaster who needs to present media in a flexible way while profiting from SEO and Feed options.
Semiomantics XO with SlideDeck Pro
Customizing SlideDeck for XO is the challenge of the first Seminar day.

1. Installation
We will install SlideDeck Pro on the author site of each seminar participant before the event.
2. Walk-through
A walk-through SlideDeck Pro will help to easily find features, editors and to understand the functions.
3. Configuration
Clean Design on XO 2011
After basic configuration we will create sample sliders (standard and smart SlideDeck) for
- home page
- sidebar
- blog-post
4. Customization
Function of your preferences and branding we will customize SlideDeck and create your own skin.
5. Content Building
The most important source of the SlideDeck content is your author site, whereas the slider will automatically pick up content from your data base.
You can also feed content from other sites, such as your shop directly into the slider, promoting thus your products or additional content.
Finally, you can create content especially for the slider; these can be any kind of media such as slides, movie clips or sound.
Run whole slide-shows in your slider, for example for product presentation purposes is just another way to exploit SlideDeck. In fact, the limit is your imagination.
6. 3 Important Advantages of SlideDeck for XO
- The slider content can be optimized the Semiomantics way like custom posts and pages (custom taxonomy).
- The slider can be configured for automated content feed.
- The slider allows for remote publishing of content and ads, therefore Semiomantics will build a new Blaster and Booster using Slidedeck Pro.
- SlideDeck is visible on Mobile Devices including Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod where flash would be invisible — just don’t load flash into your SlideDeck :-).
Finally
As building the SlideDeck is comparable to building a new website, we plan to use all of Saturday’s time for these tasks.
Professional Slide-shows with Adobe Encore CS5
Adobe Encore is a great tool to build slide-shows and other media content in flash, DVD and Blue-ray formats. We can use it to produce content for evolution and SlideDeck alike.
We will use the second Seminar day to introduce Encore CS5 (similar to CS4) and to build content for the SlideDeck and or the blog. As a bases we will use Photos, Graphics, Screen-shots and such like.
Special focus will be set on rendering media in order to produce media for online display as well as DVDs.
More details about this curriculum will follow shortly.
Materials
You should be equipped with Adobe Encore CS5 or CS4, an image editor may be necessary as you may want to re-size or edit content for the SlideDeck.
All other materials and scripts are provided.
